LEarn a little more about us

The history of Joy is a story of God’s faithfulness and desire
to reach the St. Charles community with the message of God’s love.

in the beginning

Joy Community Church started as a mission congregation of the Evengelical Lutheran Church of America in 1994. The first worship service was held at Twin Chimneys Elementary School in O’Fallon. In 1997, the main developer left the church and God paved a way for Pastor David Rispoli to become a leader of the congregation. Pastor Rispoli had been serving a congregation in Hanover, Pennsylvania, when he was invited to St. Louis to consider serving Joy. Standing at the corner of Hwy K and O’Fallon Road, Pastor Rispoli recalls the strong sense that God was calling him to his new mission, and his new home. His first service was in April of 1997, where he lead 36 people in worship. Two months later, Scott Bowles joined the congregation leadership team as worship leader and together, him and Pastor Dave ushered in a new era at Joy Community Church.

A Grand Reopening

In October of 2006, Joy held a Grand Reopening to refocus our mission and usher in a new season of life. The grand reopening marked a season of numerical and spiritual growth and helped realign or focus to that of connecting our community to Christ. Through small groups, passionate worship and a commitment to help people connect with each other and our community, we have grown steadily since 2006.

Finding a home

In early 2013, Joy received an opportunity to share a space with St. Charles River Church. Our partnership has been a great blessing and we are excited about all God is doing to build His kingdom through both congregations.

When you visit Joy on any given Sunday, you will find a community of friendly people ready to welcome you with open arms. We are passionate about worship, connection and touching people’s lives for all eternity. At Joy, there is a sense that the very best is yet to come.
